How these numbers work

What's counted

Figures come from the Kentucky State Board of Elections absentee reports. "In-person early" is no-excuse in-person voting on the Thursday, Friday and Saturday before Election Day. "All early & absentee" adds mail ballots returned, excused in-person absentee voting and military/overseas ballots.

Each report is a running total; single-day figures are the difference between two consecutive reports and can absorb reporting corrections. Mail ballots are counted when returned, so they don't line up by voting day the way in-person votes do.

Days are matched by voting day, not calendar date. Day 1 is the Thursday before Election Day in every year.

Party means voter registration, not how anyone voted. "Other" is the report total minus Democratic and Republican registrations. Military/overseas ballots have no party listed, so they count as Other.

Cautions

These are ballot counts, not turnout rates; registration totals are not included. Percent growth from a small 2022 base can look dramatic.

Counties with a zero total, a missing party breakdown, or an inconsistent report are gray and left out of rankings.

The 2022 daily reports were recovered from Internet Archive captures of the official spreadsheet, which was later overwritten.
